23 Comments I twittered about this award winning short film on Saturday morning, as it was the perfect way to begin the day. I figured I'd post it here for those that care not for the tweet-scene. It's sixteen minutes, which is about fourteen-and-a-half minutes too long to live on the internet, but I managed to make it through and so can you! I believe in you. Your magic is real:
If you've even been inside a Guitar Center's percussion department, right above the bin of twelve-dollar-fruit-shaped plastic "shakers" on the checkout counter, you've probably noticed a twelve-inch TV/VCR combo playing a looping sample of some video featuring a foreigner clad in tight black nylon who is rambling through a thick accent about sticking techniques. And surely, said video features the latest in public access Video Toaster effects, like "mosaic" and stuttery-picture-in-picture. Most music instructional tapes are like this; caught in a weird 80's production value time-warp, and in desperate need of subtitling. Alas, one of my favorite SNL personalities (and comedians in general) had apparently taken notice in 2007, and now I'm late to the party, but a happy arrival nonetheless:
Ladies and gentlemen, Fred Armisen presents: Complicated Drumming Technique.
Someone told me about this video a while back, and for whatever reason I completely spaced on looking it up. It looks absolutely BRILLIANT and I dream that one day (mayhaps this week) I may own a copy on DVD. One day...

Pitch auto-correction and a simple beat can make anything chart-worthy; even a freestyle about guacamole and expired milk. In case anyone's curious, the music took fifteen minutes, the vocals took five and it was all created in GarageBand with built-in effects. Joe shot the video with me in about six hours over the course of a weekend, assembled a pretty much final edit in an hour, and Luis polished everything up in After Effects in an evening or two.
Do me a favor would ya? If you enjoyed the video, please spam it out to other like-minded netizens. Thanks in advance!

the ish is about to get real, son.
